Abstract

The publishing industry in Malaysia has an annual net revenue of USD 335 million. Almost 20,000 new titles or new re-editions are published annually which amounts to 639 titles per million inhabitants (2012). Malaysia has a population of 30.7 million (2014). There is room for growth and the government has been active in promoting reading and publishing and aims to achieve a goal of 30,000 new titles a year.
