Abstract
Cultures of transplantable mammary carcinoma and tail root sarcoma cells of mice were initiated and maintained by serial passage. The 3 types of poliomyelitis virus, unidentified viruses from human stools, herpes and vaccinia virus multiplied in these cultures, producing a cytopathogenic effect similar to that in HeLa cell cultures. The mouse tumor tissue cultures proved useful for the isolation and serological identification of poliomyelitis virus from human stools.
