Abstract
The study of the properties of thin films deposited in vacuo has grown considerably in recent years. The vacuum equipment involves special design considerations, three major aspects of which are discussed-(I) Evaporation pressure (2) Pumping speed and ultimate oil vapour pressures, and (3) the use of discharge techniques for the cleaning of contaminated supports. Applications are fully reviewed together with results of research work on structure and physical characteristics of films
