Abstract

The article is devoted to the methodological problem of the English language linguistic and cultural variability within the university-level foreign language education. The author summarises the geopolitical and linguistic prerequisites for the pluricentrisation of the English language, provides arguments for the problem’s relevance for modern linguodidactics, and considers the theoretical foundations and practical solutions for studying varieties of the English language in higher education from the standpoint of the concept of Teaching English as an International Language.
