Abstract

The subject of the paper is the gains of Chinese civilisation in the 18th century in the field of musica speculativa and musica practica, achieved through a cultural dialogue with European civilisation. The intentions of the scientific discourse are focused on the activities of the Italian missionary Teodorico Pedrini (1671–1746) and his contribution to the formation of pedagogical traditions of piano performance in China. Analysing the cultural situation of that historical era, the author of the paper identifies the fundamental points of teaching methods and didactic means of piano pedagogy, which then determined the strategies of the piano teaching theory in the Celestial Empire.
