Abstract
Cryptozoospermia is the finding of rare sperm on extensive evaluation of semen in men with nonobstructive azoospermia (NOA). When insufficient sperm numbers, or only immotile sperm, are found in semen at IVF-ICSI, testicular sperm retrieval (TESE) is often considered as a “back up” sperm source (1). However, TESE procedures in cryptozoospermic men can fail due to the “patchy” or focal nature of sperm production in NOA testes. We evaluated the utility of sperm fine needle aspiration (FNA) “mapping” to locate testicular sperm in men with cryptozoospermia.
