Abstract

A statistical examination is made of how serials work is organized in 383 Japanese university libraries. Using relevant statistical data. the organization of serials work is shown to fall into four classifications. These data are analyzed from Ihe viewpoint of organization theory. It is shown that both the number of current serials titles and the number of librarians are important factors in determining how serials work is organized in Japanese university libraries. In addition, serials functions in serials department in Japan are compared wilh those in Canada.
