Abstract
Abstract The influence of explanatory variables in a normal multiple linear regression model is considered when the goal is to determine the predictive distribution of a future response in a Bayesian approach. The Kullback-Leibler directed divergence is used as a measure of the discrepancy between the predictive distribution for a future observation with and without a specified subset of the explanatory variables.
