Abstract
Abstract The hemagglutinin and nucleocapsid protein of the A Bel strain of influenza virus, and the neuraminidase of the B Lee strain have been isolated and analysed by polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis in the presence of neutral sodium dodecyl sulfate. The hemagglutinin subunit is a glycoprotein with a molecular weight in the region of 77,000. The nucleocapsid protein has been identified as a polypeptide of molecular weight 50,000. The neuraminidase is composed of a polypeptide of molecular weight 56,000, and possibly a second polypeptide. One of the major components of both viruses is a polypeptide of molecular weight 21,000, which corresponds to none of the known viral proteins.
