Abstract
The politicization of ethnic minority is a common phenomenon despite the fact that its manifestation may differ in different contexts. The configuration of the factors that have an impact on the politicization of ethnic minorities varies in different countries as well. For the case of the Poles in Lithuania the main factors are the following: the policy of the Lithuanian state restricting the use of the Polish language in schools, the EU membership of the Lithuanian Republic and the policy of Warsaw in terms of protecting the Polish minority in the neighbour state, as well as the existence of the similarly large minority group in Lithuania - the Russians.
