Abstract

In August 1967, a group of three oil lamps was acquired by Dr B. Rothenberg from a local farmer while on a visit to Samaria-Sebaste. The vendor claimed that the lamps all belonged to one and the same tomb, discovered in the outskirts of that town, from which they had been taken some time before. I take the opportunity to extend to my colleague Dr Rothenberg my profound gratitude for offering me these lamps for study and publication. On examination there seems to be no reason to doubt the statement that the lamps are all of the same provenance. As a matter of fact, they fall into two sub-groups of the same type. (Fig. 1-3).
