Abstract

ABSTRACT This paper aims to refute the widely accepted identification of the North Church of Shivta as the Church of St. George. A close examination of the issue reveals that the dedication relies on an outdated interpretation of the North Church by H. D. Colt, as well as on a misleading statement by F.-M. Abel. In addition, attention is drawn to an inscription from Shivta which indicates that one of the churches at the site was dedicated to St. Stephen the Martyr.
