Abstract
The article analyzes the current state and prospects of development of the Republic of Karelia, which is one of the Arctic regions of the Russian Federation. The changes in various spheres of life of the republic, as well as practical steps of the leadership of the region and the federal center aimed at improving the quality of life of the local population are considered. Special attention is paid to the factors that have both a positive and negative impact on improving the well-being of the region.
