Abstract
The ontological place and causal role of consciousness is examined in evidence-based models of mind. The challenge is highlighted of placing disembodied functional cognitive models of conscious processes emphasizing downward causation into embodied neuropsychological structural models of unconscious processes emphasizing upward causation. For the first time in modern science, recent quantum theories that posit information space and nonlocal mind are progressing toward an ontological structure to resolve the challenge. The theories are shown to be converging on the model of levels of mind in ancient Vedic literature, with major implications.
