Abstract
Multiple nearly parallel shear bands were induced by cold-rolling Zr64.13Cu15.75Ni10.12Al10 bulk metallic glass. Immersion measurements, chronopotentiometry and anodic polarization tests for as-rolled samples before and after annealing or electropolishing are conducted to analyze the pitting behavior on shear bands. It is demonstrated that the shear bands indeed act as preferential sites for pitting initiation under certain conditions, a finding attributed mainly to the structural changes in shear bands rather than surface shear offset or residual stress.
