Abstract

It is demonstrated that a reliable calculation of the perturbative QCD contribution to the pion form factor in the few GeV region, requires the inclusion of both Sudakov corrections and the intrinsic transverse momentum dependence of the hadronic wave function. Then the perturbative contribution turns out to be self-consistent for momentum transfers as low as 1 to 2 GeV. On the other hand, the transverse momentum dependence of the wave function leads to a substantial suppression of the perturbative contribution in the few GeV region.
