Abstract

The gravitational fields of the Moon and Mars provide important information concerning their internal dynamics. Lunar palaeomagnetism provides evidence of an ancient magnetic field generated in a core. We can look forward to some more palaeomagnetic data from Mars. Seismic investigations of the Moon and Mars must await the deployment of adequate networks. Geochemical and geophysical similarities and differences between these two terrestrial bodies are of the greatest significance for understanding the solar system.
