Abstract

The cross sections for photoneutron production in 139La and 141Pr have been measured from threshold to 24 MeV and 22 MeV respectively by direct neutron detection. A modified Penfold-Leiss method, with an analysis bin optimized at all energies, was used to unfold these cross sections from bremsstrahlung yield data. The results are compared with predictions of the dynamic collective model and a recent collective-correlations calculation. Most of the apparent contradictions between recent measurements of the 141Pr (γ, n) cross section from threshold to 17 MeV can be resolved through (i) a more efficacious choice of bremsstrahlung yield-curve analysis technique, and (ii) a consideration of comparative experimental resolutions and uncertainties.
