Abstract

The Teruel area contains some Permian and Triassic key outcrops neglected up to now. The Late Permian sections are the thickest in the Iberian Ranges and have yielded a pollen and spore assemblage of Thuringian age, described here for the first time. The Triassic sediments show important thickness changes and two formations (Eslida Fm. and Marines Fm.) pinch out in this area. The Muschelkalk facies also contain rich faunas and palynomorph assemblages, described here for the first time ; they are of Ladinian age. The role of a synsedimentary tectonic activity is discussed and illustrated, and correlations are made with other parts of the Iberian Ranges.
