Abstract
Dependencies σa = f(Nf) and τa = f(Nf) were experimentally obtained for two steels with different material properties. Specimens of these materials were exposed to multiple tensile and torsional proportional stress combinations. In the present paper, the experimentally obtained fatigue lifetime values are compared with fatigue lifetime estimations calculated by means of selected criteria, namely those of Findley, McDiarmid, Dang Van, Carpinteri-Spagnoli, and Margetin-Ďurka-Chmelko. The results for steel with a high ratio of Rm/Re are different from the results of the second material. The analysis of the results shows the need to take into account the failure mode in the multiaxial fatigue criteria.
