Abstract

The performance of a hydrazine engine with a new improved catalyst is investigated experimentally. A systematic parametric study is carried out proving that the new catalyst, which is lower priced compared to existing catalysts, allows higher mass flow rates at lower pressure drops through the catalyst bed. It is also found that the optimal degree of ammonia dissociation is 0.55. Design correlations are developed for the new catalyst and their use is demonstrated in an example given in the Appendix.
