Abstract
This article analyzes the role of interdiscourse relations in the formation of emotive component of the novels of fantasy series “Discworld” by Terry Pratchett. Interdiscoursivity is regarded as the interaction of one-level and multilevel components of a discourse within the imaginative discourse of fantasy novels. Interdiscource relations presuppose the interaction of the elements that are integral parts of the discourse, namely, the subjects of discourse, communicative situations, facts relating to a certain type of discourse, nonverbal components. It has been revealed that such relations are implemented as the incorporation of different language verbal and non-verbal means that are of great cultural significance, and that include precedent texts (55.5 %), precedent names (4,2 %), precedent situations (12,1 %), and precedent phenomena (28,2 %). The article also deals with the references of interdiscourse means, as well as their meaning in triggering emotions of a recipient: the contribution to the realization of the fantasy world reality is supported by the introduction of the references to natural and scientific phenomena, the borrowing of folklore realia, appealing to every-day situations, as well as by using allusions to famous pieces of arts. Precedent situations that are characteristic features of earthly world, are incorporated into the fantasy Discworld with the help of reminiscence and architextual relations, whereas precedent names are used to intensify the identity of the imaginative world and the reality. Our work emphasizes that apart from the enhancement of emotional connection between real and fantasy world and the formation of the sense component of the text, interdiscourse relations assist in creating emotional strength, which is required by the author, thus, implementing pragmatic function of the author’s self-expression and the emotional influence on a recipient. The mechanism of the transition of emotions is interdiscoursivity as dialogic relations that have gnoseological, communicative and linguistic aspects of expression. Interdiscourse relations contributing to emotional readiness of a recipient to create a fantasy world in his/ her own mind basing on the author’s ideas, identify the imaginative world with the reality with the help of precedent phenomena, precedent situations, and precedent names.
