Abstract
Technological progress has changed the way teachers provide lessons and how students learn to be known as “pedagogy”. One indicator of the achievement of learning objectives can be known based on the pedagogy that occurs during the learning process. In the e-learning system, pedagogical processes can be seen based on content usage, students' characteristics, and learning goals that capture interaction data between teachers and students with e-learning system platform. One technique that can help explore this data is Educational Data Mining (EDM) and Learning Analytics (LA) are two interdisciplinary fields related to data exploration derived from the educational context. LA is an approach that uses data models and analysis to find information and social relationships in order to improve teaching and learning, while EDM is a technique for processing data in algorithms and generating patterns or calculating indicators. This paper focuses on pedagogical activities in the e-learning system and presents an overview of the available literature relating to EDM and LA. The significance of this paper is to provide useful resources for academics and researchers in a concise form of the literature on the use of EDM and LA in pedagogy optimizing in e-learning systems.
