Abstract

This article reviews aspects of the paradoxical directive, as it is used in family systems therapy. Major contributors to paradoxical theory, like Jay Haley, Milton Erickson, Mara Selvini Palazzoli, etc. are considered. Two case studies are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the technique in gerneral hospital chaplaincy. Ethical, clinical, and biblical questions are addressed.
