Abstract

The Other Rowboat Wallace Ludel (bio) The Other Rowboat They think of himin the throes of his speed days, standing in the hallway and yellingat their mother for having bad vision. Saying, it's your genes that made me this way—and they are brought to the parable of the man rowing his boat on a foggy daywhen he crashes into another boat and yells, What's wrong with you, can't you see where you're going? Then for just a moment, the fog clears and he sees that the other boat was empty the whole timeand he's left there, alone and yelling. The mother's response was one she used often:I wish you could hear yourself talking right now. Which meant, I love you in spite of yourself, which meant, there's nobody in the other rowboat.
