Abstract

The seakeeping performance and the calm water resistance of a systematic series of 17 small ship hulls are investigated. Sea conditions typical for the North Sea area are determined and the main seakeeping responses (apart from rolling) are computed for these conditions. The relative magnitude of t hese responses is related to hull form parameters by the method of Bales. A regression equation with respect to hull form parameters is also proposed for the calm water resistance. Finally an optimum hull form is determined.
