Abstract

According to the relationship between the torsional mesh stiffness and the noise, the use of a rotated original tooth profile, circular curve and line curve as the form of the modified profile curve respectively is developed for bevel gear in order to depress the vibration and decrease the noise. The fluctuation of gear transmission error and combined torsional mesh stiffness is minimised, which is the criterion of gear tooth profile modifications. At the same time it must ensure that the variations of the load appear smooth transition. Of the three various kinds of tooth modifications, the best is the rotated modification, the next is the circular form and the worst is the linear modification in the view of transmission error and the load sharing ratio.
