Abstract
The Landsat-D is an earth-oriented sun-synchronous spacecraft with a mean altitude of 708 kilometers. This spacecraft is to be launched in 1982 and is required to point the payload instruments with a 30 error of 108 arc-seconds. A strapdown rate-integrating gyro package, two strapdown star trackers, four reaction wheels, and three-axis magnetic torquer coils constitute the primary elements of the attitude control system onboard this spacecraft. The design of this attitude determination and control system is described. Direct matching star identification methods with a six state Kalman filter for attitude determination are shown to be very efficient algorithms.
