Abstract

It has been shown that 2-methylpentene-1 is oligomerized by the action of typical metathesis catalysts, forming mainly dimers and trimers. Use of strong electron donors such as dibutyl and diethyl ethers in combination with W [OCH(CH 2Cl) 2] 2Cl 4: Al(C 2H 5) 2Cl results in a reduction of the proportion of tri-, tetra- and other higher oligomersproduced and an increase in the yield of dimer fraction. The mechanism of the oligomerization is discussed.
