Abstract

The dermatophyte Microsporum gypseum (Bodin) Guiart & Grigorakis sensu lato is recorded for the first time from Hong Kong where it was isolated by the ‘hair bait’ method from 15·2% of 197 soil samples. Of the total isolates 70% were obtained from cultivated soils, with the majority in samples which had received no organic fertilizer. The incidence is compared with that recorded elsewhere.
