Abstract

Four Boxer pups were fed a diet similar to one that has been previously used to induce arterial thromboses with infarcts of hearts and kidneys in rats. Feeding was continued for slightly over one year. One of the dogs developed advanced generalized “cholesterol-type” atherosclerosis and died with mesenteric arterial thrombosis and infarction of the small bowel. The results indicate that dogs could be successfully used in other studies pertaining to dietary-induced arterial thrombosis.
