Abstract

Twenty-four malnourished children, 1 to 3 years of age, were fed soya milk orcow's milk with similar protein content. Clinical, biochemical, and nitrogen balance data are presented. Soya milk compared favorably with skimmed cow's milk in the initial treatment of these children. Although the results obtained can be considered excellent, there are small differences in the groups studied. These differences seemed to be related to the presence or absence of clinical edema in the children. These studies indicate that soya milk is a good source of protein for the correction and prevention of infantile malnutrition.
