Abstract
Abstract The symplectic group Sp(6, R) is applied to microscopically investigate the monopole and quadrupole transition strength up to the isoscalar giant resonance region in the 20Ne nucleus. The E0 and E2 energy weighted sum rules are nicely reproduced using the Brink-Boeker B1 potential. A symplectic and α + 16O cluster mixed basis calculation is performed to clarify their complementary role and to reveal the effect of coupling on the properties of 20Ne.
