Abstract

The distribution of nuclear charge in the fission of 238U by protons of 11·2 MeV and deuterons of 10·6 MeV energy has been studied using Ge(Li) spectroscopy. Using the criteria of a Gaussian charge dispersion curve, it was found that the postulate of minimum potential energy best described the data in both systems although the proton data was fitted almost as well by the postulate of equal charge displacement.
