Abstract

The nonmesonic decays of heavy hyperfragments of massA=20, 40, 60, 80 and 100 are studied through Monte Carlo simulation. The complete decay process including the initial ΛN interaction, the nuclear cascade and the nuclear evaporation is simulated. Information is obtained on the characteristics of the decay star. An attempt is made to infer the mass region of the decaying hyperfragments from the prong distribution of the decay star. It is inferred that the neutron-to-proton stimulation ratio for the heavy hyperfragments may have any value ranging from 1 to 9.
