Abstract

A nonlinear convection-reaction-diffusion equation is used as a model equation of the El Niño events. In this model, the effects of convection, turbulent diffusion, linear feed-back and nonlinear radiation on the anomaly of Sea Surface Temperature (SST) are considered. In the case of constant convection, this equation has exact kink-like travelling wave solutions, which can be used to explain the history of an El Niño event.
