Abstract

Megan Kenny is a Doctoral Researcher exploring cyber violence via social media. In addition to her own research, for the last two years she has been working with Professor Adele Jones on a project to prevent domestic violence in the Caribbean. None in Three, funded by the EU, takes its name from the statistic that one in three women and girls will experience sexual or physical violence in their lifetime. At the centre of the several strands of work being undertaken is a prosocial computer game created to challenge attitudes among the young that contribute to violent behaviours in later life and seeking also to generate awareness and empathy in respect of domestic violence. This innovative approach, alongside a wide-ranging public engagement strategy, has won Jones and her team grants totalling £4.6 million (Arts and Humanities Research Council funded) to establish the Ni3 Research Centre and to expand the work to the UK, India, China, Jamaica and Uganda.
