Abstract

Two phosphosilicate sols were studied by 1H, 13C and 31P NMR, and their gels were studied by 31P NMR. The 1H and 13C NMR spectra show that the hydrolysis of Si(OCH 2CH 3) 4 is much faster than that of PO(OCH 2CH 3) 3 in alcoholic sorvent. The hydrolysis of PO(OCH 2CH 3) 3 is slow as its content increases in the sol while the other conditions are unchanged. The 31P NMR spectra show that there are no POP and POSi bonds in the sols 9 h after the beginning of the reaction, but these bonds were found in the gels.
