Abstract
The paper discusses Marian Polak-Chlabicz’s English translations of Bolesław Leśmian’s poetry. The analysis begins with the description of the preliminary norm as refl ected in text selection and of the initial norm, which is defi ned by the attempts at re-creating the strangeness of Leśmian’s poetics. Polak-Chlabicz’s translation strategies under discussion include: his way of handling neologisms and other creative language deviations, the issues of syntax, poetic form, ideational contents of the poems. Editorial problems and the issue of paratexts have also been addressed.
