Abstract

A new scanning nuclear microprobe (MP) with a short-length probe forming system has been designed and installed at the 3 MV van de Graaff accelerator in Cracow. The optimized probe forming system (PFS) includes a divided Russian quadruplet of magnetic quadrupole lenses. A novel beam scanning system with ferrite-cored magnetic coils is used. Preliminary experimental results and some features of the MP are described. The design developed is promising for the next generation of compact and vertical nuclear MPs.
