Abstract

The isothermal sections of the Nd–Zn–(Si,Ge) phase diagrams at 870 K over the whole concentration region have been constructed using X-ray phase analysis. The formation of the previously reported phase NdZn 1.5Ge 0.5 (AlB 2 structure type) was confirmed, and eight new ternary compounds were observed. The crystal structures of the NdZnSi (AlB 2 structure type) and NdZn 0.5− x Si 1.5+ x ( x=0.2, α-ThSi 2 structure type) compounds were determined using X-ray powder diffraction data.
