Abstract

The isothermal sections of the Nd—(V, Cr, Mn)—Ge phase diagrams at 870 K over the whole concentration region have been constructed using X-ray phase analysis. Ternary compounds are not formed in NdVGe system. We confirmed the existence of previously reported ternary compounds: NdMn 2Ge 2 with the CeGa 2Al 2-type structure, NdMn 6Ge 6 with the YCo 6Ge 6-type structure and NdMn x Ge 2 with the CeNiSi 2-type structure. The new ternary compounds Nd 117Cr 52Ge 112 with the Tb 117Fe 52Ge 112-type structure and Nd 2Cr 9Ge 8 with its own type of structure have been prepared for the first time. The crystal structure of the compound Nd 2Gr 9Ge 8 has been determined by single-crystal analysis, and other structures have been established using X-ray powder diffraction data.
