Abstract

ABSTRACT The Nelson Memo was released in August 2022. Directly affecting all US federal funding agencies, the required policy changes outlined in the memo emphasize the importance of public access to the products of taxpayer-supported research and transparency in terms of the underlying data. At the same time, the onus will ultimately be on researchers to ensure that findability and access are promoted. Although researchers are experts in their fields, they are not necessarily well-versed in the best ways to carry out some of the requirements described in the Nelson Memo. Fortunately, in many cases, technical services librarians already have expertise that either already directly supports the requirements or that is analogous and complementary.
