Abstract

Since 2013, public health services for school-aged children have been the responsibility of local authorities. With this responsibility comes a need to ensure that appropriate and effective services are being delivered, by providers, to children and young people. Commissioners need to have an understanding of Government policy direction to ensure that effective local services are developed which tackle core health issues. This paper illustrates how, through the use of a range of tools, school nurses and their teams can demonstrate the effectiveness and impact of the service they deliver. The article concludes with a rallying cry for school nurses to engage with commissioners and show them the successful work taking place within the service.
