Abstract

The National Association of Geology Teachers was founded in 1938 and has contributed to geoscience education by publishing the Journal of Geological Education for 40 years, by cooperating with the United States Geological Survey on a Cooperative Summer Field-Training Program for undergraduates, by awarding summer-field-course scholarships, by conducting numerous sectional field trips every year, by conducting technical sessions and symposia on geological education every year at its national meetings, by holding workshops for teachers at section meetings, and by recognizing excellence in teaching from kindergarten through the graduate level with its OEST and Neil Miner awards. For the last 50 years, NAGT has been a part of virtually every national initiative in geoscience education including ESCP, CEGS, GEO-Study, ESTPP and CEEP, and ESEP.
