Abstract

The National Assembly of the Republic of Korea is a unicameral system. The National Assembly electoral system uses a Mixed-Member Proportional System. The district members are elected in their respective single-member constituency. The proportional representation members are elected from the whole country as a unit. The total number of legislators is 300 and serves a four-year term. A total of 253 members of them are elected by a plurality of votes in single-member districts. The other 47 members are elected via a closed party-list proportional representation system. The Proportional Representation seats are distributed to political parties which won over 3 percent of the party vote share or over five seats in the single-member districts.
