Abstract
Abstract A new binuclear molybdenum(VI) oxocomplex, ethylenediammonium trioxomolybdate(VI)-μ-oxotrioxoethylenediaminemolybdate(VI), with the formula (enH2) [O3MoOMo(en)O3] (1), has been synthesized. Thermal degradation of the compound to the oxide MoO3 has been studied by means of thermoanalytical methods. The IR spectrum confirms the presence of the ethylenediammonium cation and the complex anion. The crystal structure of the title compound was determined by X-ray diffraction methods. The crystal contains [O3MoOMo(en)O3]2− anions and ethylenediammonium cations. The molybdenum atoms in the complex anion, show two different coordination geometries which produce a structure formed by a tetrahedral [MoO4] and an octahedral [MoO4N2] sharing an oxygen atom. The ethylenediamine has two functions, it acts as a bidentate ligand and as a cation in the complex salt.
