Abstract
The momentum transfer cross section for electrons incident on mercury atoms hasbeen determined from the solution of Dirac–Fock scattering equations whichincluded both static and dynamic multipole polarization potentials as well as fullanti-symmetrization to incorporate exchange effects. This cross section isin excellent agreement between 0.2 and 3.0 eV with the cross sectionderived from the most recent experimental measurements. The discrepancybelow 0.2 eV has been investigated using two-term transport theory.
