Abstract

Author's summary.— Tests given to college freshmen reveal a direct relation between knowledge of (English) grammar and proficiency in foreign language. Modern language teachers must give more systematic instruction in grammatical terminology and theory in order to give their pupils a fair chance to learn the foreign language.
