The Messiah of Disabled: Dr BS Chavan

Abstract

Dr. BS Chavan was the founder and Editor-in-Chief of Journal of Disability Management and Rehabilitation (JDMR) Dr. BS Chavan left for his heavenly abode on 4th December 2020 due to cancer and has left a void. It is important to chronicle his life and work. Dr Chavan is known for his work and contribution for the upliftment of persons with disabilities. Dr Chavan did his MBBS from Government Medical College, Rohtak, Haryana followed by MD (Psychiatry) from the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh in the year 1980-1984 and 1985-1987 respectively and later received the WHO Fellowship in Australia in 1998. Dr Chavan did Diploma in Hospital Administration (DHM) in 2003 from NIHFW, New Delhi, Fellowship of National Academy of Medical Sciences (NAMS) and Fellow of International Medical Science Academy (FIMSA). He did serve as Senior Resident at PGIMER, Chandigarh for short term meanwhile he got selected as faculty in All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi in the year 1988. Dr Chavan served in AIIMS till April 1996 when he joined Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Chandigarh as Professor and Head of Department of Psychiatry.
